To all of our friends and supporters, the following is a reflection from the Provincial Leader of the Irish Province of the Society of African Missions, Fr. Michael McCabe SMA.
With this Blessing Fr. Michael and all of the SMA Community wish you a Happy Christmas and express our heartfelt gratitude for your sustaining generosity and encouragement. We pray that you will have time to relax with all of your loved ones and to remember the day our world was changed forever…
“The Word became flesh;
He lived among us and we saw his glory”
Love is Born
(a poem by Michael Leunig)
Love is born
With a dark and troubled face
When hope is dead
And in the most unlikely place
Love is born:
Love is always born
The miracle of Christmas is that God’s greatness
is manifested in littleness,
vulnerability and helplessness.
In his birth as in his death,
Christ reveals the face of a God
whose only power is the power of love.
The great German theologian, Dorothee Sölle, says:
“God is weak and powerless in the world, and that is exactly the way, the only way, in which He can be with us and help us.”
Christmas tells us that God is Emmanuel, God-with-us, loving us without conditions or limits. As we sing the ‘Adestefideles’ and worship the God who smiles at us through the eyes of a helpless and totally dependent infant, may our hearts be touched and our lives transformed by the gift of Love.
Wishing you joy and the peace of Christ this Christmas and always.
