The SMA Parish, Wilton, will be the location for a Mass on the 16th May at 7.30pm to honour the memory of Glasgow Celtic hero, Billy McNeill, who died on April 22, 2019. McNeill was the first ever British player to list the European Cup in their famous 2-1 victory over Italy’s Internazionale on 25 May 1967. He is considered Celtic’s greatest ever captain and went on to become one of the club’s most successful managers.
The Mass is the brain child of Martin Gordan, a Glasgow man who in his earlier days spent a couple of years in Wilton as an SMA student.
Martin is going to a lot trouble to give Billy a fitting tribute. He has organised musicians for the Mass and it is his hope that three of Billy’s former teammates will attend. He has been in contact with Glasgow Celtic Football Club and they have presented Gordan with a Celtic jersey with Billy’s name and number on it.
It is the hope that many Glasgow Celtic supports will honour Billy with their presence at the mass on Thursday 16th May at 7.30pm.
