SMA Golf competition 2016

For 36 years SMA members have participated in an annual Golf Competition in Cork. For many years the Douglas Golf Club have generously made their facilities available to us for this two-day event which brings together SMAs from home and abroad. Some invitees also participate.

Fr Hugh B Harkin SMA is responsible for the organisation and smooth-running of this event and his efforts are greatly appreciated by all who enjoy this opportunity to renew acquaintances with fellow SMAs they may not have seen for several years.

This year, 23 SMA priests and two Invitees [Michael Curtin and Paul Murphy], teed off from 9am on Wednesday, 27 July. The weather was ideal for golf and, after completing their rounds, many enjoyed the excellent dining facilities in the Golf Club.

Similar weather was enjoyed on Thursday and when all had completed their rounds it was Fr Michael Flattery SMA who topped the SMA Players’ Leader Board.  Well done Michael!

Mention must be made of those who played the Nine Holes competition. Fr Gus O’Driscoll took the honours from Fergus Tuohy, Noel O’Leary and one of three Octogenarians playing in the competition, Fr Sean Lynch.

Mr Paul Murphy led the players home and Mr Michael Curtin carded a similar score to Fr Flattery.

Sincere thanks to Douglas Golf Club for their hospitality and excellent service over the two days. It was enjoyed by all. And to Fr Hugh B Harkin, as ever, a sincere Thanks Hugh for all the work in organizing, getting sponsors etc etc.

And so… let the practice begin for 2017!
