The Spring/Summer edition of the African Missionary Magazine has just been published. This time it is an expanded version with twelve pages rather than the usual eight. The reasons for the larger than normal edition are the 5th Anniversary of Laudato Si, the Encyclical letter of Pope Francis and the Covid-19 Pandemic. Opening with an account of the experience of Fr Silvano Galli, an Italian SMA working in Togo there are in all five articles that speak of living and working in this time of Pandemic.
New Video Messages this week from Fr Tom Curran and Fr Ignatius Malwa
Two articles tell of how Coronavirus has affected the plans and work of the Friends of Africa and OLA Sisters in Mwanza, Tanzania. The articles report how each, in their own way, responded positively to the situation. In keeping with the changes that are happening in our world there are articles on the unprecedented level of species extinction happening in our time, while another marks the 5th Anniversary of Laudato Si, the celebration of which has been disrupted by the Pandemic. This article links our openness to accepting enormous change because of Covid-19, to the need to accept similar levels of change in order to care for the Earth, our common home.
Another article celebrates the fifty years of ministry, mostly in Nigeria, given by Fr Mark Monaghan, SMA and finally this already bumper issue of the African Missionary finishes with a short yet very informative article on Iran and the Middle East, written by Fr Jarlath Walsh, SMA.
