Irish Provincial Assembly in session

The 16th Irish Provincial Assembly is meeting at the Dromantine Retreat & Conference Centre, north of Newry City, Co Down.

There are 27 delegates participating in the Assembly, which began on 1 July 2013. The Assembly is scheduled to finish on 18 July. The 24 elected delegates represent the different places where Irish SMA priests and brothers are assigned: Ghana, Ireland, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia. Fr John Brown represents the members from the rest of the world (i.e. Canada, England, Philippines and the USA).

Following the election of Fr Michael McCabe as Provincial Leader for the coming 6 years the Assembly is now setting priorities and drawing up a plan to implement these priorities. It is planned that Councillors to assist Fr McCabe will be elected towards the end of the week. On Monday, 8 July, the SMA Superior General, Fr Fachtna O’Driscoll addressed the Assembly.
