Irish Provincial Assembly 2013 in session

The Irish Provincial Assembly is now meeting at the Dromantine Conference & Retreat Centre, Newry. The Assembly is scheduled to run from 1 – 18 July with 27 delegates attending: 3 ex-officio and 24 elected from the Irish Province membership throughout the world (12 of them were elected from different ‘constituencies’ in Africa).

The Assembly began with Concelebrated Mass in the Main Chapel, where most of the delegates prayed during their years of philosophy and theology studies.

Fr John Dunne, SMA Provincial Leader, is chairing the meeting, though most of the work will be done in four Working Groups. Mr Gay Redmond is the Assembly Facilitator with Fr Tom Curran and Martin Kavanagh taking care of the Assembly Secretariat.

Monday, 1 July, the Assembly will begin with an Opening Address by Fr Dunne, followed by various administrative matters – formally agreeing the Timetable, Agenda, Working Groups etc.

In the afternoon the Assembly will hear brief reports from the Irish delegates to the SMA General Assembly which took place shortly after Easter. They will address five principal issues: Mission, Spirituality & Lifestyle, Formation, Administration and Finance.

Please keep the Assembly delegates in your prayers over the coming weeks as they assess the last six years, look at the Present Reality of the Province and plan for the coming six years.

During the Assembly a new Provincial Leader and Councillors will be elected.
