Tuesday 5th December is the worldwide celebrations for International Volunteer Day. This day was designated by the UN General Assembly as a chance for volunteers and organisation to celebrate their efforts, share their values and promote their work among their communities.
The World Meeting of Families 2018 (WMOF2018) is asking our help to raise the profile of their volunteer call today. The WMOF2018 need thousands of volunteers to help deliver the World Meeting of Families 2018 and the Society of African Missions want to help spread the word.
What can you do?
1) Handwrite Volunteer for WMOF2018 on a piece of paper.
2) Take a picture of yourself holding the page.
3) Share it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other social media using the hashtags #WMOF2018 and also #VolunteersActFirst, which is the hashtag for this year’s UN International Volunteer Day. This is really important to create a trend that day.
If you don’t have a smartphone, a social media account or do not know how to do this, you can ask a friend or a family member to help you take your photo and post it on social media. Alternatively, you can email your photo to firstname.lastname@example.org
Here is an example of how this would look:
Do you live abroad?
Because volunteering requires garda vetting and training, volunteering for WMOF2018 is only available in Ireland. If you are not a resident in Ireland you won’t be able to register as a volunteer but you can still help us spread the word by promoting our volunteer drive.
Thank you to our volunteers!
We recognise and celebrate the contribution of our WMOF2018 volunteers as we plan for the World Meeting of Families 2018 in Ireland. International Volunteer Day is also an opportunity for us to say THANK YOU to all the volunteers that have registered with us and those who have been helping us so much in the last couple of months.
Their motivation to make a difference, share their values and contribute towards WMOF2018 will help ensure that we have a wonderful celebratory event next August!
Consider becoming a volunteer
If you are a resident of the island of Ireland, why not consider volunteering for WMOF2018, either as an individual or as part of a group? No previous volunteering experience is necessary and we have roles for everyone, from logistics to liturgical, from translations to transport, among others.
We need a diverse mix of people with various skills and experiences to ensure the success of WMOF2018 – and we need thousands of you! Whatever your reasons or your focus, we know that your abilities and experience can help us and we would welcome your support in helping us create a successful, historic and joyous event.
