The death has taken place of Fr (Doctor) Alberto Olivoni SMA. Fr Olivoni died in the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork, on Wednesday evening. His sister Maria and brother-in-law Giorgio along with their two daughters, Elisabetta and Elena, had travelled from Italy to be with Fr Alberto in his final days.
Fr Olivoni served as a Medical Doctor for 18 years before joining the SMA. He worked in Nigeria, Uganda, Chad and Thailand. He was ordained in 1988 by the late Bishop William Mahony SMA, Bishop of Ilorin, where the newly-ordained Fr Olivoni was to serve for most of his priestly life.
After ordination, Fr Alberto served in Ondo Diocese (1988-1989), Ilorin Diocese (1989-2004), Kontagora Vicariate (2004-2006) and Bauchi Diocese (2006-2013). He retired to the SMA House, Blackrock Road, Cork in 2013.

Prayer, followed by removal to St Joseph’s SMA Church, Wilton at 10am, Good Friday.
A Celebration of the Word and Rite of Final Commendation & Farewell will take place at 11am, followed by burial in the community cemetery.
Fr Alberto is mourned by his family, relatives, friends and confreres in the Society of African Missions.
