I have been a fan
of my favourite club, county and country
for most of my life.
Being a fan
has generated great camaraderie
travelling with others to games
and on the terraces,
though the turnstiles take their toll
in terms of cash.
Banter with fans from the other side
generally gives fun and food for thought
though we have to be careful
that it does not blow up,
especially after the end
when decisions and the deeds of players
could result in the match being continued
by other means.
Give me discernment
not to develop into a fanatic.
