Armagh Apostolic Workers reach out to the Philippines

The Armagh Apostolic Workers received several donations over Christmas to assist with the ongoing appeals for help following the terrible devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan last November.

Aware that the SMA have Filipino priests – on mission in Ghana and Tanzania – they generously sent financial help to the SMA team in Manila. Fr Gus O’Driscoll (from Rathcormac, Co Cork) and Filipino SMA Fr German Patiga are providing badly-needed aid for the people of two parishes badly effected by the disaster, Holy Family and Our Lady, Queen of Angels.

The aid has included 1,000 pairs of flip-flops, blankets, tarpaulins, water, foodstuffs… Concerning the money received from Armagh Apostolic Work Fr Gus wrote:

“Following on your phone call a few days ago re. the money received from the Apostolic Workers – I spoke with German, as he will be going home again on Jan 13. Both his parish church and one of the chapels had their roofs completely blown off, so money will be needed for the replacements. Their donation and the money transferred to our account here through the SMA will be used in part for this project.

Fr German will also be looking at the re-building of their family homes.

We sent off another truck load of food and other commodities two nights ago.”

Since the disaster we have received many donations through our Online Donate facility to help the Philippines. Click here to support their efforts.
