Africa’s economic boom has not filtered down

Economic boom in AfricaAfrica is going through an economic boom. This is based on foreign investment in its natural resources.

Nigeria, to take one example, has massive oil resources yet 70% of its people live on less than €1 a day.

In other countries, for example, workers are dying due to lack of proper safety standards in mines which are foreign (non-African) owned. Has our insatiable hunger for oil, coal, iron etc inured us to the rights of the African people whose God-given resources they are?

Some of these investors are moving into mineral-rich African countries and getting control of the local resources. To some observors it is a new form of (economic) colonialism.
