Tuesday, 7 April, is World Health Day.
Among the Millennium Development Goals was one to reduce infant mortality rates throughout the world. In 1990 the rate was 177 for every 1,000 live births. By 2012 this had been reduced to 98 per 1,000 live births, but still a long way from the 59 they set as their target.
