Fr Fachtna O’Driscoll, SMA Provincial Leader and all the members of the Irish Province ask your prayers and support this year as we hold two Assemblies critical to our missionary life and work.
The SMA General Assembly will take place in Rome from 8 April until 3 May. During it the delegates attending it will evaluate our work over the past six years, discuss and plan for the coming six-year term and, thirdly, elect a Superior General and Councillors to lead the Society.
In accordance with the SMA Constitutions & Laws, SMA members were invited to engage in a Consultative Vote for Superior General. We await the publication of that Consultation to the entire membership.
From 1 – 18 July the Irish Provincial Assembly will take place at the SMA Dromantine Conference Centre. This too is an opportunity for the Irish delegates to assess and plan for the coming six years how we in this Province will implement the decisions of the General Assembly and any decisions we make directly affecting the Irish Province and our mission in Africa.
A Provincial Leadership team will also be elected to guide us. Fr Fachtna O’Driscoll has led us for the past 12 years and, according to our Constitutions and Laws, he can not be re-elected. So there will be a new face at the head of the Irish Province later this year. At present we are in the process of holding preparatory meetings and consultations so that our delegates will know the mind of the SMA membership when the Assemblies begin.
Please pray the guidance of the Holy Spirit on them all.
Though much is taken, much abides; and though We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. (Ulysses, Alfred Lord Tennyson)
