If someone is not able to go to Confession, can he pray honestly and go to Holy Communion?

You find two types of people in the Church on Sundays.  Some receive Holy Communion every Sunday but hardly ever go to Confession.  I would advise these to read 1Cor. 11:17 – 34 especially verses 27-29 “For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body of the Lord, eats and drinks judgement upon himself”.  If we know we have done something very wrong, we should not receive Communion but should go to Confession first.

Others hardly ever receive Holy Communion.  To these I would say that it is the wish of the Church that every time one goes to Mass one should also receive Holy Communion.

If the priest announced that anyone who came up to the altar on Sunday would receive 1,000 Naira I am certain that everyone in the Church would come to the altar.  Each Sunday you are being offered something more valuable than one million naira – Jesus Christ himself.  So if you are not conscious of any serious sin, even though you have not been to Confession for some time, you should receive Holy Communion provided you have fasted for one hour beforehand.  Those who are not married in Church should not take this matter lightly, but should take steps to get their marriage regularized.  They are missing an immense treasure when they miss Holy Communion.
